SPECIFICATION
  USEFULNESS

The ‘PADEL ECHO’ is a latest development especially designed to meet the increasing requirements of stage performing and orchestra artists. A discriminating artist can get excellent ‘sound effects’ by this unit.

Echo / Reverberation effect generated by the chamber can be cassette recorded giving excellent ‘live performance’ effect on reproduction. You might have noticed sponsored advertisements on Radio & TV using such effects, which are very pleasing to the listener and give a  ‘Live’ effect.

With little knowledge, experience and practice anybody can adjust controls as explained below for best result and a very ‘Live’ performance.

  TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

This echo uses Bucket Brigade MOS type, 2048-stage shift register Integrated Circuit.  The audio signal applied at the input of the IC is stepped up stage by stage by a Clock, until it comes out delayed after a discrete interval of time. The delayed signal when fed back to the input simulates the echoes in a reverberant room. Adding the delayed signal to the original gives the desired reverberation effect.

RE-3 has facility of one mike input.  Three controls ‘ECHO’, ‘INTENSITY’ and ’DELAY’ control the echo effect. The delay time is variable between 20-140 milli seconds. The amount of original sound with the reverberated sound can be varied with the ‘INTENSITY’ control, giving variable number of echoes.  The frequency response of the delay unit is kept limited upto 5 KHz. by active low pass filters so as to minimize distortion, since reverberation/echo effect above 5 KHz does not have significant effect on the normal human hearing.

  STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE

To get the best result out of your ECHO, please follow the instructions step-by-step as written:-

1.       Open the Padel Lid by unscrewing the black screw in front. Fix a new 9V battery in the battery clip. Push down the lid & fix the same black screw.

2.       Alternatively, this unit can be operated on a 9V Battery Eliminator. Join the battery lead supplied to a 9V-battery eliminator. Insert the jack to the socket at the back of the echo. When eliminator is connected, the unit will draw power from the eliminator. The battery will not be consumed; it will act as a ‘stand-by’ source of supply.

3.       Join a Microphone to ‘INPUT’ socket. The LED indicator shall glow if the Padel is pressed once. If Padel is pressed again, LED shall stop glowing. This ensures that power source have been connected correctly. The echo will be ‘ON’ only when mike lead is connected to ‘INPUT’.

4.       Connect JP-JP3 lead (supplied with echo) from ‘OUTPUT’ socket to the MIKE input stage of any amplifier. Keep the MIKE volume at ‘1’ or ‘2’. Keep ‘MIKE VOLUME’ on echo to mid-position.

5.       Keep DELAY at Mid-point. At ‘0’ or lowest position, the Delay / Echo (delay time between original and echoed sound) is maximum. At full or ‘10’ position, Delay is minimum or shortest.

6.       Keep ECHO also at Mid-point. At ‘0’ position, Echo / Delay is Zero i.e. only Original or Direct sound will be heard. On advance from ‘0’ to ‘1-2-3’. Echo sound will start alongwith Original Sound but Echoes Intensity shall be weaker than the original. App. at Mid-point or slightly lesser, Original and its Echo will be of equal intensity. On further advance from ‘4’ to ‘10’ Echo will become stronger and Original will be weaker.

7.       Keep INTENSITY also at Mid-point.  At ‘0’ position, the numbers of repetitions are lowest. At full the number of repetitions are highest.

8.       At this setting, a nice REVERBERATION EFFECT or ‘HALL EFFECT’ sound shall be heard. At this position, around 50% direct and 50% echoed sound is mixed and then fed back to the circuit to create this effect.

9.       Slowly decreasing DELAY shall decrease no. of echoes, thereby increasing delay time between two echoes.

10.    With slight practice, you shall be able to create different sound effects using these three effect controls. Please practice to learn create desired sound effects.

11.    DIRECT OUT SOCKET: - Input signal fed to the echo is available as ‘DIRECT OUT’ from this socket. This is useful to connect other equipment.
